An accounting application at Celloscope Ltd.: system architecture and database schema, authentication, authorization and backend APIs, and an automated CI/CD pipeline with Docker and GitLab Runner.

Node.jsPostgreSQLDockerGitLab CI

Problem

Accounting software has to keep financial records correct, restrict who can see and change them, and ship updates without putting production at risk.

Solution

Designed the system architecture and database schema, implemented authentication, role-based authorization and the backend APIs, and automated the build and deployment pipeline with Docker and GitLab Runner.

System architecture

  1. Database schema designed first, around the accounting records the system must keep.
  2. Backend APIs with authentication and role-based authorization at the service layer.
  3. Containerized with Docker; built and deployed through GitLab Runner pipelines.

Backend logic

  • Authorization is checked on the server for every request, not only hidden in the UI.
  • Schema and APIs designed together so financial records stay consistent.
  • The CI/CD pipeline builds and ships containers without manual steps.

Tech stack

Backend

  • Node.js
  • REST APIs
  • Authentication & authorization

Database

  • PostgreSQL

Infra

  • Docker
  • GitLab Runner CI/CD

Outcome / impact

  • Releases go out through an automated pipeline instead of by hand.
  • Access to financial data is limited by role.
  • Proprietary system — details available in interviews.

Result: A secure accounting backend with automated, repeatable deployments.
